Preliminary reports from the scene indicate that the child was ejected from the Chrysler 300 that she was a passenger in. The car reportedly flipped end to end before landing several yards off the busy highway around 7:27am. Three people refused treatment at the scene. However, one person was sent to the Marshall Medical Center for treatment. The medical examiner was called to scene to further investigate the fatality. Approximately 2 hours later, a nine year old passenger was also sent to the hospital after becoming sick at the scene. Officials say the child was also complaining of leg and knee pain. TDOS Officials told WAXO News shortly before the 12pm news that the victim was identified as Briana Diestelow. The driver of the car was also identified as 55 year old William Joseph Booth of Maryland. It was believed that Booth was a relative of the young girl. | ||

| BREAKING NEWS...Traffic Halted at CSX Tracks on 2nd Avenue | ||
|
7:24 pm (Posted by Sharrin Lusco-Smartt) Numerous emergency crews are currently at the scene of a crash on 2nd Avenue at the CSX Railroad Tracks. The accident ocurred at approximately 6:45pm. Details are sketchy, but bystanders at the scene believe that a car and a train may have collided at the railroad crossing. Preliminary reports indicate that the car was approximately 10 feet away from the intersection off an embankment. The sole occupant of the car, has miraculously gotten out of the vehicle and was walking from the vehicle. Officials say that she has declined treatment stating that she was "fine". Traffic in the area has been rerouted to Maple Street. The train is currently blocking thru traffic in the area. WAXO News is on the scene and will have more details as they become available. 7:34pm WAXO News has learned that the vehicle is believed to be tagged out of Giles County (Lynnville). Officials at the scene say that pending an investigation by CSX Railroad, the train cannot be moved from it's present location. 7:45pm The CSX train will be moving from the intersection. A driver who was behind the vehicle that collided with the train told WAXO News that "it was the slowest moving wreck he'd ever seen", as the train was reportedly moving at a crawl. The driver of the vehicle of the car (thought to be a Nissan) allegedly tried to "beat" the train as it was making it's way across the intersection. Obviously, that was not the case as the car appears to be to be totaled. Tune into WAXO News for video footage and further details. |
